The comics burrito
Dec. 5 2003
Grr! The BLOG just ATE my POST!!! I'm certain that you care!
something about Reed Graphica
a new imprint for graphic novels. They're publishing David Chelsea in Love
, which I'm italicizing with the CITE tag, because Neilalien
says I should. I feel like I've accomplished something now.
is a piece on Joe Sacco's The Fixer
at salon-dot-com. The day pass thing today is dumm, but short.
I wanted to blog a least three things, but all other news stories in comics are boooring so here's your chance to hurt my feelings: Take a look at the comics I sent to my college newspaper
and tell me why they didn't want them. Be as cruel as you like, but RESPONSES ARE MANDATORY.
ImageTexT: Interdisciplinary Comics Studies
It looks like there'll be an online journal of comics studies coming soon. They're open to submissions, so if any of you lean to the scholarly side of comics fandom, give it a shot.
Powells.com From the Author - David Rees
Mr. Kartalopolous of Egon
fame told me to blog this, so I will. It recounts David Rees' adventures in self-publishing and reprints his application for a certain grant that shall remain nameless. Good for some ha has, if you didn't like the last link.
I don't feel like titling this
Okay, back from Thanksgiving break. I ate a duck's stomach. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Johnanna Draper Carlson has added COLONIA
to her list of Comics Worth Reading
, and I agree. That's a fun comic.
I'm mixed on the reaction to the recent supposedly anti-Muslim B.C.
strip. Everyone who thinks Johnny Hart's too much of a hack to do anything sophisticated with symbolism doesn't remember when B.C. was good. It actually was, seriously. I don't think CAIR jumped the gun on this, but I don't really see the point of even pointing it out. Harping on every third-rate cartoonist who does something stupid like this is pointless. Next thing you know, they'll be sending angry e-mails to bloggers. Johnny Hart's just plain not important, just like every cartoonist that's not Charles Schulz' corpse. Full disclosure: If you didn't guess, Mr. Pierce is a Muslim. Be wary!
From the brilliant mind that brought you Ravage 2099 and Stripperella, Stan Lee presents... Hef's Super Bunnies
Here's yet another article on micropayments.
